It was the Boston Store in the 1900s with a landmark clock that was a well-known Erie meeting place for decades. 'Let's meet under the clock' was a catchphrase. And, that catchphrase is being revived. Under the Clock Bar & Grill is on the first floor of this historic building. A casual-yet-upscale restaurant that is bringing some fresh thinking onto the Erie dining scene. High, exposed ceilings, red mahogany paneling and furnishings, plus the former Boston Store's marble interior columns extend an eclectic welcome. Under the Clock does a great job of turning out tasty food. Start your meal with Saganaki – sharp Kasseri cheese fried in butter, flambéed with brandy, and drizzled with fresh lemon juice. Entrées include superbly prepared presentations of Steak Diane and Steak au Poivre; and American comfort foods like Braised Beef Short Ribs, dry rubbed with herbs & spices then slow-roasted in red wine and beef stock; Lake Erie Yellow Perch; and Sautéed Beef Tips over Egg Noodles. Desserts are incredible – try the Oh So Snickery Mud Pie or the Crème Brûlée Cheese Cake which is nothing short of perfection.
