Stepping into Carmen's comfortable dining room is like going to Sunday supper at your Italian grandmother's. You say you don't have an Italian grandmother? Relax. The sorelle Pacinelli - Gloria, Jackie and Marlene - will be happy to show you the pleasures of Italian dining alla famiglia.
Like the family kitchen, Carmen's is cozy, cheerful and welcoming. The cooking is generous (try the gargantuan Italian Platter), loving and authentic. After all, the Pacinelli sisters have been stirring the sauce pot at the family-owned eastside landmark since childhood. While the ownership extends back two generations, the recipes date back to grandma, and probably beyond.
The portions are impressively nonna-sized, too. Especially notable are the homemade spaghetti, the towering lasagna and a perfectly prepared eggplant parmigiana.
As grandma might say, "Mangia! Mangia!"
